Recent maximum penalties imposed by Shenzhen's Port and Shipping Freight Bureau against nine transportation companies for safety violations have sounded an alarm across the industry.
The crackdown originated from routine inspections of GPS data from commercial vehicles conducted by Shenzhen Traffic Police between February 27 and March 26. Authorities discovered multiple violations including uninstalled recording devices, missing interfaces, or damaged connections - critical failures that compromised real-time monitoring of vehicle operations.
Investigations revealed 56 freight and container trucks from nine companies were involved. The penalized firms include: Jite Logistics, Chaoshidai Logistics, Huateng Logistics, Haige Jieshun Transportation, Anxun Transportation, Haijin Transportation Development, Anji Freight, Donghe Transportation, and Liangtai Logistics.
On May 4, 2018, the freight management department issued formal warnings and correction notices to these companies, demanding immediate rectification. However, subsequent penalties indicate unsatisfactory compliance with safety requirements.
Under Shenzhen's transportation safety regulations, the bureau imposed maximum sanctions including business suspension until all violations are corrected and verified through reinspection. This effectively halts normal operations for non-compliant firms.
The incident exposes critical safety management gaps in the logistics sector. Functional GPS monitoring serves as a vital safety measure, enabling real-time tracking of vehicle location, speed, and driving patterns to identify and correct unsafe practices.
