As a crucial hub connecting the Baltic Sea to global trade networks, Helsingborg handles approximately 275,000 TEU annually by sea and an additional 25,000 TEU via rail. Faced with growing cargo volumes, the port opted for digital innovation rather than physical expansion.

Over the past 18 months, the port implemented Kaleris' N4 terminal operating system (TOS), initiating a modernization program focused on operational refinement. The results have demonstrated the foresight of this strategic decision, with the N4 system serving as an intelligent control center that has fundamentally transformed port operations.
"The old static yard planning approach was like putting shackles on our operations. The lack of flexibility constrained yard capacity and made efficiency improvements impossible," said Sanjin Redzepagic, Chief Information Officer at Port of Helsingborg.

The berth window management feature has particularly revolutionized vessel planning. Digitalized berth scheduling has reduced container handling movements by 50%, significantly improving efficiency while simultaneously cutting fuel consumption and supporting environmental sustainability goals.
Data-Driven Improvements
Performance metrics validate the transformation, with the N4 system's advanced analytics contributing to an 8% increase in gross moves per hour (GMPH). Port operators now leverage detailed vessel access data to analyze operational trends and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
