In a vegetable cultivation base in Zhenhai, customs officials braved the rain to visit the cooperative farm of Ningbo Jialv Food Company, meticulously collecting and sending samples of export-bound broccoli for inspection. This thorough preparatory work aims to ensure product quality from the source, helping businesses maintain competitiveness in the demanding international market.
As a company specializing in frozen vegetable production and sales, Jialv exports all its products to Japan. Last year, the company successfully exported over 3,000 metric tons of various frozen vegetables valued at 30 million yuan ($4.2 million). This year, they've already received export orders totaling 3,500 tons .
"Japan maintains extremely stringent standards for food imports," said Li Hujun, executive deputy general manager. "With customs authorities as our strong support, we're continuously expanding our international market presence."
Zhenhai Customs recognizes both challenges and opportunities facing agricultural exporters. To provide targeted services, they've assigned liaison officers to nearly 30 agricultural export enterprises in the region. These officers conduct regular field visits and offer one-on-one guidance on crop cultivation, pesticide use, and irrigation management.
"Our role involves helping enterprises strengthen safety controls throughout raw material inspection, testing, and production processes to ensure exported agricultural products meet quality standards," explained customs officer Zhu Hongwei.
This dedicated support system not only enhances export quality but also reduces compliance burdens for businesses. Additionally, Zhenhai Customs regularly compiles international import regulations and notifications about non-compliant products, promptly sharing this critical information with exporters.
