New Air Freight Option Between China And Europe Airbridgecargo Launches Regular Cargo Routes

In today's rapidly evolving international trade environment, the efficient transportation of specialized industrial products—particularly heavyweight cargo—has become a critical challenge for companies and nations alike. Russian cargo airline AirBridgeCargo has recently addressed this need by establishing new freight routes that create an "air bridge" between China and Europe.

New Strategic Routes

The airline launched its first regularly scheduled Boeing 747 freighter service on April 23, operating from Beijing to Luxembourg via Novosibirsk. A second route from Shanghai to Luxembourg via Moscow has also commenced operations. Currently operating two Boeing 747-200 freighters, AirBridgeCargo is running four weekly flights initially—two each from Beijing and Shanghai, both connecting through Moscow and Novosibirsk to Luxembourg. The carrier plans to expand its Shanghai service in June while adding a new route from Tianjin.

Expanding Capabilities

As Russia's first all-cargo airline operating scheduled flights, AirBridgeCargo belongs to the Volga-Dnepr Group, which specializes in global charter services for oversized and super-heavy cargo. Since obtaining its independent operating license in 2005, the company has focused on expanding its international freight services. Notably, AirBridgeCargo has appointed Air Cargo Agents and International Air Services as its general sales agents for the European market to enhance its competitive position.

The company's long-term strategy involves operating a combined fleet of Boeing 747 mainline aircraft with Russian-made Tu-204 or Il-76 regional freighters. Over the next five to six years, the fleet is expected to grow to six Boeing 747 freighters and four to six Russian aircraft. The Volga-Dnepr Group's president emphasized that growing trade between China and Russia has increased demand from Chinese companies for transporting specialized industrial products. Aircraft like the An-124—capable of carrying payloads up to 120-150 tons—are particularly suited for transporting high-tech heavy equipment.

Operational Advantages

The new routes via Russian transit points to Europe not only reduce transit times but currently represent the most efficient freight option from China to Europe. Compared to traditional Southeast Asian routes, these new connections save nearly two hours in transport time, offering customers a more streamlined logistics solution. AirBridgeCargo's new routes provide businesses with more convenient transportation options while delivering comprehensive solutions to meet the growing global demand for air freight charters and scheduled cargo services.
