A Dangerous Goods Declaration (DGD) is a mandatory procedure for transporting hazardous materials, while general cargo and ordinary chemical products do not require this process. Below are the key procedures and required documentation for DGD at Shanghai Port:
1. Two Components of DGD
The declaration consists of two parts: Cargo Declaration and Vessel Declaration .
2. Required Documentation
- English version of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet)
- Declaration authorization letter
- Packing list
- Dangerous goods packaging certificate (including boiler inspection certificate and classification society certificate)
3. Importance of DGD
Upon completion, the declarant will receive a declaration form and an electronic yellow slip. The latter must be provided to the transport team to ensure smooth entry into the port area after acceptance.
4. Declaration Timeline
The deadline for DGD should be checked on the shipping agent's website according to the confirmed vessel name and voyage number. Due to recent slower processing times, it's advisable to begin preparations 1-2 days in advance to avoid expedited fees.
For example, if the deadline is 10:00 AM Friday, all necessary documents should be prepared by Wednesday morning. The container number and packing list should be obtained by Friday morning, allowing relevant warehouses to provide required documentation.
Key recommendation: Always verify the declaration deadline in advance and communicate with clients to obtain dangerous goods packaging certificates and technical packaging specifications promptly. This ensures an uninterrupted declaration process and prevents missing scheduled voyages.
