In the transportation of dangerous goods, correct operational procedures and thorough documentation preparation are crucial. Unlike standard cargo shipments, dangerous goods require booking arrangements to be completed approximately 10 working days in advance to allow for necessary preparations.
The preparatory work includes submitting a shipping authorization letter, dangerous goods identification results, and technical specifications for packaged dangerous goods. The authorization letter must clearly specify both Chinese and English product names, container type, hazard class (CLASS NO.), United Nations dangerous goods code (UN NO.), packaging details, and gross weight to ensure accuracy.
Required Documentation for Dangerous Goods Declaration
The primary documents needed for dangerous goods declaration include:
- A. Transport packaging appraisal result for export goods
- B. Packaging performance inspection result (original copy required)
- C. Dangerous goods technical specification (collectively referred to as "Two Certificates and One Document" along with A and B)
- D. Packing list, invoice, and cargo arrival notice
- E. United Nations identification number
- F. Container packing certificate (required in duplicate, with copies retained by both the shipping agent and terminal)
All safety compliance certificates, dangerous goods declaration forms, and warehouse acceptance notices must be faxed to both the shipping company and terminal according to requirements.
Additional Safety Requirements
Delivery personnel must undergo specialized training and provide detailed contact information. Each package containing dangerous goods must display proper hazard labeling. During container loading, photographic documentation is required to verify proper packaging arrangement, preventing potential issues during maritime declaration procedures. Hazard labels must also be affixed to the exterior of containers.
Dangerous goods declarations are typically processed each morning. Upon completion, fax copies of the "Dangerous Goods Safety Compliance Declaration," "Terminal Operation Approval Form," and "Dangerous Goods Warehouse Acceptance Notice" must be promptly sent to both the shipping company and terminal, clearly marked with the declaration number to ensure smooth transportation operations.
