China Eastern Airlines has implemented a new free checked baggage policy for its European, Australian, and Japanese routes effective January 10, 2023. The updated standards offer enhanced allowances across all cabin classes.
Under the new policy, economy class passengers are now permitted two free checked bags, with each piece not exceeding 23 kilograms (approximately 50 pounds). Premium economy and business class travelers also receive two pieces, but with an increased weight limit of 32 kilograms (70 pounds) per bag. First class passengers enjoy the most generous allowance with three free bags at 32 kilograms each.
The airline maintains dimensional restrictions, requiring that no single piece of luggage exceed 158 centimeters (62 inches) in total linear dimensions (length + width + height). Any baggage exceeding the free allowance will be subject to additional fees according to the new standards.
Passengers who purchased tickets before January 10, 2023, will have their baggage allowances determined by the terms specified on their original tickets. The new policy does not apply retroactively to previously issued tickets.
Frequent flyers receive additional benefits through China Eastern's loyalty program and alliance partnerships. Elite members of the "Eastern Miles" program gain extra allowances: Gold card members may check one additional bag up to 32 kilograms, while Silver card members receive one extra 23-kilogram bag. Similar privileges extend to SkyTeam Elite Plus and Elite members , who qualify for an additional 23-kilogram bag.
This policy revision reflects China Eastern Airlines' commitment to enhancing passenger experience through more flexible baggage options. The changes aim to better accommodate international travelers' needs while maintaining competitive service standards in the global aviation market.
