The prolonged shipping cycles between Asia and the Caribbean/Mexico have long posed logistical challenges for global traders. CMA CGM addresses this with a significant upgrade to its PEX2 route, eliminating cumbersome transshipments and offering direct connectivity starting in 2026.

A Strategic Maritime Bridge

The enhanced PEX2 route now functions as a precision link between key Asian ports—including Vung Tau (Vietnam), Shekou (Shenzhen), and Hong Kong—and Caribbean/Mexican markets. The inaugural vessel, CMA CGM George Washington , arrived at Vung Tau on December 27, 2025, marking the beginning of this efficiency-driven era. Its first call at Mazatlán, Mexico, scheduled for February 6, 2026, is expected to revitalize regional trade dynamics.

Two-Phase Implementation

The upgrade follows a structured transition. During the initial phase, the route will maintain a stop at Singapore to ensure operational continuity. From February 18, 2026, the PEX2 will operate as a fully direct service, removing Singapore from its itinerary. This optimization ensures stable schedules, broader port coverage, and enhanced capacity to meet rising regional trade demands.

The redesigned PEX2 route is positioned to support businesses in expanding their global footprint through reduced transit times and improved reliability.
