Singaporean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can now expand beyond local markets, reaching consumers in the United States and worldwide through eBay’s platform. This vision is becoming a reality following a new partnership between eBay and Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG), aimed at enhancing the cross-border export capabilities of Singaporean businesses.

The collaboration focuses on comprehensive support for SMEs, including training, financial incentives, and tailored guidance to navigate global e-commerce. Key initiatives under the memorandum of understanding include:

  • 12-month onboarding program: Designed to help businesses quickly adapt to eBay’s platform, with potential subsidies for store setup and marketing expenses.
  • Increased sales limits: Enabling faster scaling to capitalize on market opportunities.
  • Seller education and webinars: Offering specialized training to improve operational efficiency.
  • Subsidized access to eBay tools: Reducing costs for advanced selling features.
  • Dedicated account managers: Providing one-on-one support to address challenges.

Focus on the U.S. Market

The partnership prioritizes strengthening exports to the U.S., which remains the top destination for Singaporean sellers on eBay. Data from 2020 highlights the most exported product categories, including commercial and industrial supplies, jewelry and watches, toys and games, sporting goods, and collectibles.

Vidmay Naini, eBay’s General Manager for Southeast Asia, emphasized the collaboration’s role in unlocking SMEs’ global potential. “This initiative fosters a sustainable and inclusive digital economy for Singapore and the broader region,” he said.

Clarence Hoe, Executive Director of EnterpriseSG for the Americas and Europe, noted that e-commerce has opened new avenues for Singaporean brands to access distant but lucrative markets. “Through this partnership, we aim to equip businesses with the tools and knowledge to stand out in competitive landscapes,” he added.

The alliance not only benefits Singaporean SMEs but also injects momentum into Southeast Asia’s cross-border e-commerce growth. With concerted efforts from eBay and EnterpriseSG, these businesses are poised to achieve greater international success, contributing to Singapore’s economic vitality.
