Imagine your Amazon Germany store is thriving, only to suddenly experience a dramatic drop in sales—or worse, a complete suspension. This scenario is not hypothetical but a real risk for sellers who fail to comply with updated tax requirements. March 1, 2024 , marks a critical deadline for sellers on Amazon’s German marketplace.
Since August 2022, Amazon has been notifying Germany-based sellers that the company name and tax address listed in the seller platform’s "Tax Settings" must exactly match the information in the German Federal Central Tax Office’s database. In other words, the business name and address associated with your VAT registration must be identical to the details provided in your Amazon seller account. Minor discrepancies are not tolerated.
Amazon recently reiterated this requirement, warning that sellers who fail to comply within a 60-day grace period risk having their German marketplace sales privileges restricted—or losing access to Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) services in Germany. Although the initial deadline was set for March 1, 2023, the policy remains strictly enforced, and new sellers continue to encounter penalties for non-compliance.
To verify compliance, sellers should cross-check the company name and address on their German VAT registration certificate ( Bescheid über die Erteilung einer Umsatzsteuer-Identifikationsnummer ) against the information listed in their Amazon seller account. Any inconsistencies must be corrected immediately.
With the deadline approaching, sellers are urged to complete all necessary updates before March 1 to avoid disruptions to their business operations. Adhering to these regulations is essential for maintaining uninterrupted sales and ensuring long-term success on Amazon’s German platform.
