Imagine a future where one in every five packages delivered in Brazil comes from Shopee. This scenario, predicted by Goldman Sachs based on Shopee's rapid expansion in Latin America, could become reality by 2025. According to a recent report, Shopee has captured 5% of Brazil's e-commerce market since entering in 2019 and is projected to quadruple its share within four years. To achieve this ambitious goal, the company may invest up to $1.5 billion across Brazil and other Latin American markets.
Shopee Bets Big on Latin America
The report highlights Shopee's remarkable 2021 performance, with app downloads nearly doubling year-over-year, cementing its leadership in Southeast Asia while making significant inroads in Latin America and Europe. This aggressive expansion reflects Shopee's confidence in Latin America's untapped potential and its ambition to become a global e-commerce leader.
While Goldman Sachs analysts anticipate continued losses for Shopee in 2022, they emphasize the platform's long-term investment value in Latin America. Sustained investment could enable Shopee to significantly grow its market share and achieve profitability in coming years.
