This vision is becoming reality as Maersk officially opens its largest distribution hub in the region—the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center—in Calamba, Philippines.

The shipping giant announced the operational launch of the 100,000-square-meter facility through its subsidiary Maersk Contract Logistics. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, underscoring the project's significance for the nation's economic growth.

A Strategic Logistics Hub

Positioned as Maersk's flagship facility in the Philippines, the Optimus Distribution Center boasts a prime location designed to serve as Southern Luzon's logistics nerve center. With a storage capacity of 76,000 pallets, 75 loading docks, and an advanced Fleet Operations Control Center (FOCC), the hub aims to revolutionize supply chain efficiency in the archipelago.

"With the grand opening of Maersk Optimus, our logistics system moves closer to becoming a formidable force that connects our islands, energizes our industries, and unites our people on the path to sustainable development," President Marcos declared during the ceremony.

Sustainability at the Core

The facility is engineered for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, incorporating solar power infrastructure and rainwater harvesting systems to minimize environmental impact. These features align with Maersk's global commitment to sustainable operations through energy efficiency and waste reduction initiatives.

Multi-Sector Economic Impact

Beyond warehousing, the center will function as a hub for packaging services and inventory management, supporting industries ranging from consumer goods and healthcare to automotive and retail sectors. Three major FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) companies have already begun utilizing the facility.

Analysts note that the $100 million investment marks a significant upgrade to Philippine logistics infrastructure, particularly benefiting export-import activities in Southern Luzon regions like Bicol and Calabarzon. The project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities while strengthening the country's position in Southeast Asian supply chains.
