Dallas Love Field Airport, a key civil aviation facility in Texas, is located approximately 10 kilometers northwest of downtown Dallas. Owned by the City of Dallas and operated by the Dallas Department of Aviation, the airport serves the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area with essential air transportation services.
History and Infrastructure
Established in 1917, Dallas Love Field spans 1,300 acres (530 hectares) at an elevation of 148 meters (487 feet). The airport features three runways: a 2,682-meter concrete runway (13R/31L), a 2,363-meter concrete runway (13L/31R), and a 1,874-meter asphalt runway (18/36). A $519 million terminal opened in 2009, replacing older facilities with modern infrastructure.
Airlines and Operations
Since the 1970s, Dallas Love Field has served as the birthplace and headquarters for Southwest Airlines, remaining one of its largest operational bases. United Airlines ceased operations at the airport on March 15, 2015. Today, the airport primarily offers domestic flights to major U.S. cities including Atlanta, San Francisco, Birmingham, Charlotte, Chicago, and Orlando. Southwest operates direct flights to 15 U.S. airports, while Delta Air Lines and Quest Air also maintain operations at the facility.
