In an era of economic globalization, the efficiency and convenience of logistics transportation have become increasingly crucial. On November 1st, Guangzhou's New Baiyun International Airport officially launched dedicated cargo flights, while Guangzhou Customs simultaneously introduced 24-hour clearance services—innovations injecting new vitality into the air freight industry.
The inauguration of these new flights marks a significant step forward for Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport as it transitions into an international logistics hub. The inaugural foreign cargo flight was operated by Lufthansa Cargo's MD-11 freighter, servicing a route connecting Frankfurt, Delhi, Guangzhou, Tashkent, and Munich. With a cargo capacity ten times greater than traditional passenger-freighter combi aircraft, the MD-11 meets the growing demands of global freight transportation. Previously constrained by the limitations of the old Baiyun Airport, which could only accommodate temporary cargo flights with limited capacity, Guangzhou's air freight operations have now entered a period of rapid expansion with the new airport's full operational capabilities.
Looking ahead, November will see additional cargo flights from Japan Airlines and Asiana Airlines arriving at New Baiyun Airport. Early next year, Air France Cargo is scheduled to commence operations. As more international carriers establish cargo routes through Guangzhou, the airport is poised to emerge as a dynamic new player in global logistics networks.
To support these cargo flight operations, Guangzhou Customs has implemented several service enhancements. Beyond maintaining 24-hour clearance for passengers, perishable goods, and urgent shipments, the customs authority has now extended round-the-clock processing to regular cargo—including weekend operations. These measures not only facilitate import/export businesses but also strengthen Guangzhou's position and competitiveness as an international trade gateway within global freight networks.
